In advance of the 2020 season, the PGA Tour released its top 10 golfers of the past decade on December 1. While the period from 2000 to 2009 was dominated by Tiger Woods, the 2010s was about emerging stars trying to establish themselves as the best in the game, according to PGA Tour writer Sean Martin. Yet, despite his drop off in performance brought about by back injuries and personal matters, Woods won a combined eight tournaments in 2012 and 2013 and was named PGA Tour Player of the Year in the latter year. He ranked fifth on PGA Tour’s list ahead of Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson. Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson ranked fourth, third, and second, respectively, while Rory McIlroy earned distinction as the best player of the past decade. McIlroy, who began his PGA Tour career in 2010, won 18 tournaments in the decade, four of which were major championships. He also joined Woods as the only players to ever win multiple FedExCups.
