ENJOYING LOCAL GOLF AND FOLLOWING THE TOP PGA GOLFERS

Baldwin Wallace University alumnus Peter Starr completed a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at the Ohio-based school in 2012 and attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington, D.C. An accomplished golfer in high school, Peter Starr of Ohio has played on several well-known courses and has played in many tournaments over the years. He also enjoys following the PGA Tour. In advance of the 2020 season, the PGA Tour released its top 10 golfers of the past decade on December 1. While the period from 2000 to 2009 was dominated by Tiger Woods, the 2010s was about emerging stars trying to establish themselves as the best in the game, according to PGA Tour writer Sean Martin. Yet, despite his drop off in performance brought about by back injuries and personal matters, Woods won a combined eight tournaments in 2012 and 2013 and was named PGA Tour Player of the Year in the latter year. He ranked fifth on PGA Tour’s list ahead of Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson. Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson ranked fourth, third, and second, respectively, while Rory McIlroy earned distinction as the best player of the past decade. McIlroy, who began his PGA Tour career in 2010, won 18 tournaments in the decade, four of which were major championships. He also joined Woods as the only players to ever win multiple FedExCups.

 

Peter Starr AND THE IMPORTANCE OF WEIGHTLIFTING TO GOLF

Peter a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and minor in sports management.  Peter played intramural basketball, baseball, golf and football at BW. He was also an accomplished golfer in high school as well as after high school. He played in many tournaments around the area for many years.

He took many weightlifting classes in high school and college. He found the bench press is an effective exercise for golf to build strong chest, back, delta, and tricep muscles. To get the most out of a workout, weight lifters should incorporate these three variations of the exercise:

  1.  Reverse-grip bench press- This variation of the bench press focuses on building strong triceps and improving overall form, as the reverse grip requires the elbows to stay tucked into your sides.
  2. Incline bench press-While it’s harder to lift as much weight while sitting on a bench at a 45-degree incline, this exercise targets your middle and anterior deltoids to help round out your chest.
  3. Decline bench press- In contrast to the incline bench press, situate a bench at a 45-degree decline and push the bar forward with an overhand grip.  This exercise targets the lower chest muscles and is an effective complement to the incline bench press.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WEIGHTLIFING IN ALL SPORTS

The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, Peter Starr played intramural basketball, football, golf in college. He was also an accomplished golfer at his Ohio high school. In an effort to improve his athletic capabilities, Peter Starr worked out at many gyms at BW and local gyms. He also took many classes on weightlifting and worked with a trainee regularly.

An Overview and Brief History of the Firestone Country Club in Akron

Peter Starr distinguished himself as a star golfer while attending high school in Ohio. Over the years, Peter Starr’s golf pursuits have taken him to a number of venues in his home state of Ohio, including Firestone Country Club.

Firestone Country Club provides a top-quality golfing experience to the people of Ohio. Located in Akron, the private club traces its history to the 1920s, when entrepreneur Harvey Firestone established a course for the employees of his company, the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. This 18-hole layout, now known as the South Course, opened in 1929.

The South Course benefited from renovations by Robert Trent Jones, who updated the layout in the 1960s. Meanwhile, the club itself expanded, drawing again on the talents of Jones to design the 18-hole North Course, which opened in 1969.

In the decades since, Firestone Country Club has added an 18-hole layout, the West Course, and introduced a nine-hole public course. While players will find high-quality conditions across each of the club’s 63 holes, the South and North Courses have received particular acclaim, garnering recognition from Golf Digest as the 13th- and 17th-ranked venues, respectively, on the publication’s 2019-20 list of the Best Golf Courses in Ohio.
